What does an innovative home look like in 2024?

INSPIRATION

Whether you’re building a new home, renovating, or simply re-designing an existing home, it’s always nice to feel you’re making the most of the very latest innovations. So, what does a smart, innovative home look like this year?

Here are a few key trends to take advantage of for your home:

#1 – Intelligent home automation

Technology is evolving constantly, and there are now all kinds of ways you can add a layer of automated intelligence to your home – whether it’s a system that sends security alerts whenever there’s an unexpected movement on your property, a smart-fridge that alerts you when a certain item needs replacing, or a completely automated sprinkler system so you never have to worry about watering your plants.

When it comes to your window coverings, we have joined this innovative trend by developing Luxaflex®  PowerView® Automation.

This smart solution can deliver:

  • Added convenience—easily control shades with a button press, tap on your mobile device, automatically, or even with your voice.
  • Increased privacy—schedule your shades to automatically close whenever you want.
  • Better energy efficiency—schedule shades to raise and lower to keep interiors warmer or cooler, depending on the season.
  • Enhanced security—give your home a lived-in look while you’re away by scheduling shades to automatically raise and lower at set times.
  • Safety for children—because smart shades lack lift cords, they’re a safer option than shades with exposed cords.

Luxaflex® PowerView® Automation can either be accessed by a Luxaflex® Pebble® remote, or an app on your own smartphone or device. You can even set timers - so your blinds open at a certain time in the morning, or close at a specific time in the evening. Plus, smart controls let you program your window coverings around the movement of the sun.

#2 – Smart solutions for thermal control

There are now all kinds of intelligent new ways that you can actively control the temperature in your home – potentially reducing your heating and cooling costs by a significant margin.

Luxaflex® Duette® Shades, for instance, are the original cellular or honeycomb shades, engineered to provide beauty as well as offering levels of energy efficiency in both cold and warm climates. The honeycomb construction of the Duette®  Honeycomb Shades traps air in distinct pockets, which creates insulation that can help lower your energy consumption and energy bills.

Duette® shades are available in a single-cell design as well as the industry-leading Luxaflex® Duette® Architella®, which features a honeycomb within a honeycomb for maximum energy efficiency. Studies have revealed that Luxaflex® Duette® Shades can reduce a home’s heating costs by a very impressive 43%.*

#3 – Balanced privacy

As urban density increases, more people are looking for intelligent ways to ensure privacy in their home – while still maintaining a healthy flow of air and light. That's why we have been heavily focused on developing a new range of window coverings which offer a combination of these two priorities.

Luxaflex® Luminette® Privacy Sheers are an ideal option, as they allow a soft and flattering light to filter through to any room, while still maintaining privacy where required.

Luxaflex® Pirouette® Shadings are another smart option – with soft horizontal fabric vanes that float on a sheer backing allowing you to achieve infinite combinations of light control, privacy, UV protection and view through.

Luxaflex® Silhouette® Shadings have unique S-shaped vanes that float between two sheer panels to beautifully diffuse the light into your room. When the vanes are tilted, you can block the outside world's view into your home. The innovative design also bounces incoming light up onto the ceiling and naturally brightens the room.

#4 – Active UV protection

Today, it’s also possible to choose window coverings that actively block the sun’s UV rays.

Luxaflex® Silhouette® Shadings, for instance, are specifically made to filter harsh UV rays to protect your furnishings from damage - as are Luxaflex Pirouette® Shadings and Luxaflex Lumishade® Window Coverings.

Made from 100% polyester, the Veri Shades® fabric in our Lumishades range offers durable properties such as fade resistance and specific UV protection to help preserve the fabric and home furnishings from fading.

On the exterior of your home, the Luxaflex® Evo MagnaTrack® features Luxaflex® Spectra Fibreglass Sunscreen fabric, which can help eliminate up to 95% of solar heat, bringing you long-term energy savings and helping you feel comfortable no matter what the weather’s doing.

#5 – Moisture-resistant window coverings

With our changing climate, it’s important to have innovations which protect your home from all kinds of different weather scenarios – such as excess humidity, or long periods of rain.

We have incorporated a range of innovations into our products to protect against build-up of toxic mould and damp.

Luxaflex® PolySatin® Shutters for instance, are specifically designed to be impervious to moisture. The PolySatin® finish will look as luxurious as the day the shutters were installed, for years to come. They are also guaranteed to not blister, peel, flake, corrode or fade.
